I made two kick-ass purchases today. Taking it back to the 80’s
Mutha fuckin Bruce Leroy lol. What you know about the Berry Gordy’s “The Last Dragon“? One of the cheesiest black movies but you can’t deny this shit is pure heat. Leroy was catching bullets with his teeth and shit and can’t forget brotha had ((The Glow)). Then you had Sho’nuff the shogun of Harlem…the baddest lol and Prince’s girl Vanity playing the leading lady. Yea this movie is dope!!!
Remember Busta Rhymes portrayal of Sho’nuff in his Dangerous video.
My other purchase…
Yes Ducktales Vol. 1…whoohoo lol. I loved this cartoon as a kid and hell i still do. I’ve been eye balling this one for awhile and finally decided to go ahead and pick it up. Cartoons suck today. Remember when there used to be that block of cartoons around 3pm. We used to get home from school try to finish our homework all quick so we could watch Ducktales, Chip n’ Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Tale Spin..etc.
Man Disney had the game on lock in the 80’s and early 90’s when it came to bomb ass after school Cartoons. I plan on bumpin’ up my collection of classic cartoons. This is only the beginning lol.
I signed up for Sirius online radio right. They make it so easy for you to sign up, just fill out the form and what not and your chillin listening to tunes in less than 10 minutes.
But guess the fuck what…do you think it’s that easy to cancel your account. NOT SO MUCH!!!! You have call these mutha fuckas to get them to cancel your account. Damnit don’t give me extra work lol. If I can sign up online then I should be able to cancel online. Pisses me off lol.
So every now and again, honestly more often than not, I look at myself and my surroundings and think “damn I don’t see to many black folk around here.” At my job, a TV station, I am the only black male in the news department and the third black male in the entire building. Yes only three black men in the whole building, that’s some shit right! Now I know that’s no ones fault. That’s just the way it is, but it still makes me feel…different. [In all there are 6 black people working in my building]
This is the first time in my life I have been around so few black people. My high school was 98% black and then I went to a HBCU (historically black college or university).
While in college I learned so much about myself, black people and the world we live in. It’s amazing how different we all are but that’s a good thing. Some people spend so much time trying to do away with differences when it’s our differences that make us special. We should celebrate them not hide them. That is what blacks have felt they have had to do for years. Hide our differences because we are just so different that its wrong.
Anyway I’m rambling a little…but at times I just hate being the only black dude when I go out with my co-workers, who are all really good people and i do consider them friends. I know simple solution make some black friends then lol. Well I don’t pick my friends based on race I pick like minded people to be my friends. It just sucks I haven’t met a whole hell of a lot of black people that I feel that way about. For that matter I haven’t met to many people in general that I feel are like minded to me.
Hmmm…I don’t know I guess I’m just talking about loud via the internet. Race is just a very touchy subject for me, I feel really passionate about it. I’m extremely pro-black but certainly not a tool.
Anyway I’m going to call this part 1 because I have the feeling this wont be the last time the subject of race will come up lol.
So I’m not to fond of the radio or most mainstream music, yea…not so much. So every now and again I’ll go on a hunt for some new tunes.
My latest find…PHOENIX.
These French dudes have this 80’s pop/rock thing goin on. “United” is their debut album, released back in 2000. You may have heard their track “Too Young” on movie soundtracks for Shallow Hal and/or Lost In Translation.
…I really hate my job. I’m a weekend news producer, producing the 6pm & 11pm news on Saturday’s and Sunday’s (during the weekdays I’m a show writer and fill-in producer). Some days it all just stresses me the fuck out.
The economy sucks so we’ve had to cut back on our hours. Which means more work, less time to do the work and worst of all less money for the amount of work we do. Between 2:30pm-11pm I bang out two half our shows. All on days when there is hardly any content to fill the show. My lead story today? A fucking brush fire that isn’t near my viewing audience and isn’t threatening anyone. But it was there and trust me there was nothing else better.
Most days I do enjoy what I do but I’m really not sure if this is what I meant to do. I can tell you this much tho. I spent a lot of money on college to learn this stuff so you best believe I’m in it until I feel I’ve gotten all I can get out of it.
So I’m laying down right…flipping channels and what do I roll up on…Showtime at The Apollo.
Hell if I knew that this shit still came on…FOH man lol. I thought this show had finally been laid to rest many moons ago.
I remember when watching this used to be the highlight of a Saturday night..lol…now it’s just tired.
But hell at 4:30 in the morning this makes for good bad tv.
Damnit I still can’t believe this shit is on tv right now.
UPDATE: So apparently I’m just later than a sluts period on this. One of my friends was kind enough to let me know that this is not some well kept secret that Apollo is still kickin. Oh well. Carry on.
You know what?…This blog is going to be pretty random. Cuz thats the type of person I am. Like most blogs I’ll post about stuff I do and don’t like with some general rambling about things that are on my mind.
I get bored with things pretty quickly, so how long I keep this thing going remains to be seen.
